Coach, Advisor, Advocate
Lee Scheinbart, MD, CPE, FAAPL, brings more than 20 years of clinical practice and physician executive experience to his work as a coach, advisor, and advocate. His perspective is grounded in leading people and organizations through change, uncertainty, and consequential decisions.
From clinical practice to executive leadership
Dr. Scheinbart practiced hematology and oncology with Melbourne Internal Medicine Associates (MIMA) and Health First for over two decades. He served on the MIMA and Hospice of Health First boards, helped found the William Childs Hospice House, and served as medical director of the Health First Cancer Institute.
He went on to become Vice President of Medical Affairs and Chief Medical Officer at Health First Hospitals, part of a $2.2 billion integrated healthcare system in East Central Florida. He has also served as Chief Health Affairs Officer and Assistant Professor of Leadership Development at Burrell College of Osteopathic Medicine.
Teaching and developing physician leaders
Dr. Scheinbart is the principal instructor and curriculum creator for the American Association for Physician Leadership’s Chief Medical Officer Academy, leading its first cohort in 2024. His writing has appeared in AAPL journals and books, including The Chief Medical Officer’s Financial Primer: The Vital Handbook for Physician Executives, published in August 2024.
He earned certification as an executive coach in 2026. His approach draws on experience in clinical medicine, organizational leadership, and incident command during the COVID-19 pandemic, natural disasters, and cyberattacks.
A wider conversation about leadership
In 2024, he launched The Fire Chief podcast, which became part of the CMO Group at the end of 2025. Conversations bring together CMOs and leaders across healthcare finance, crisis management, legal affairs, technology, and medicine. He is also a founding physician on Roon, a community where physicians share expertise, discuss medicine and public health, and connect with colleagues.
Education and training
Dr. Scheinbart earned his BS in biology at the University of Michigan and his MD at Ohio State University. He completed his internal medicine residency and hematology/oncology fellowship at the University of Florida Shands Hospital.
